Wat Tha Thanon

Wat Tha Thanon, Buddhist temple in Tha It, Thailand.

Wat Tha Thanon is a Buddhist temple in Tha It situated along the Nan River, featuring traditional Thai architecture with an Ubosot and Viharn structure. The buildings house sacred Buddhist statues and display traditional design elements characteristic of northern Thai temples.

The temple gained prominence in 1893 when monks discovered the bronze Luang Po Phet statue, estimated to come from the 13th century. This discovery elevated the site's importance in the Buddhist religious landscape and transformed it into a significant pilgrimage destination.

The temple serves as an active center of religious life where visitors can watch monks perform daily rituals and observe how local people make offerings and pray. The space draws pilgrims and worshippers throughout the year who come to honor the sacred statues kept within.

The temple sits along the Nan River and can be found by following the river route through Tha It. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing such as long pants and shirts with sleeves when entering the temple grounds to show respect for the sacred space.

The Luang Po Phet statue housed in the Viharn is part of a series of Buddha images scattered across Thailand with varying levels of reverence. This version ranks as the second most important variant of this particular Buddha form in the country.
