Thai Pheng Uangkong Shrine, مزار في تايلاند

Thai Pheng Uangkong Shrine is a small sanctuary in Bang Kung located in a quiet wooded setting beside the Mae Khlong River. The site contains a shrine room housing a shining golden Buddha statue called Nila Manee, sheltered beneath towering banyan trees that have grown around the structure over many years.

The shrine dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom period, when it served as a spiritual retreat for soldiers who prayed and meditated near the river. Later, the leader Taksin led military campaigns from this location, giving the site military significance during his battles against enemies.

The shrine serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors leave small offerings and light incense as acts of respect. The gilded Buddha statue inside receives continuous attention from worshippers who add gold leaf, keeping the tradition of seeking blessings alive through these simple daily rituals.

The shrine is open daily from early morning until late afternoon and sits about 6 kilometers from Amphawa town center on the west side of the Mae Khlong River. You can reach it by bicycle, tuk tuk, or boat from town, and wear comfortable shoes as the path winds through tree roots and uneven ground.

The shrine underwent government restoration in 1967 as part of a celebration, receiving new statues depicting King Taksin and soldiers. These sculptures serve as visual reminders of the site's military past and now stand as central monuments at the sanctuary.
