Khao Rom

Khao Rom is a mountain summit in the Sankamphaeng Range of eastern Thailand, reaching an elevation of 1,351 meters (4,433 feet). It stands as the highest peak within this particular mountain chain.

During the Vietnam War, the United States military built an Air Defense Radar Station at the summit, operated by the 621 Tactical Control Squadron. This military installation served an important strategic role during the conflict.

The mountain carries different names across languages, including Khao Khiao in Cebuano and เขาร่ม in Thai, showing how local and neighboring communities have referred to this place. These name variations reflect the region's connections to different cultural groups.

The summit area remains under Royal Thai Armed Forces control with limited visitor access, though designated viewpoints near the entrance are available to explore. Plan to spend time at these accessible locations to take in the views and surrounding landscape.

The mountain experiences extreme humidity levels reaching 95% during rainy seasons, which creates specific growing conditions for local plant and animal life. These moisture-rich conditions distinctly shape the environment and ecosystem of the area.
