Wat Sai Yai, Buddhist temple in Sai Noi, Thailand.
Wat Sai Yai is a Buddhist temple in Sai Noi featuring two chapels, one built from teak and another completed in 2016. The complex sits near Khlong Phra Pimon Racha canal and includes an attached primary school alongside residential buildings.
The temple was founded in 1867 during King Mongkut's reign under its original name Wat Maharnichortahram. It was renamed to Wat Sai Yai in 1955 to make pronunciation easier.
The older chapel displays murals showing stories from Buddha's life and houses an iron elephant that visitors use for divination practices.
The temple grounds connect to an adjacent primary school and sit near the Sainoi floating market where local produce is sold. The location is easy to access on foot and works well for a relaxed visit.
Beneath the chapel lies an underground chamber accessible through a dedicated staircase, creating an unusual architectural feature in this religious site. This hidden area adds a surprising element to the otherwise open temple layout.
