Wat Amphawan

Wat Amphawan, Buddhist temple in Bang Muang, Thailand.

Wat Amphawan is a temple in Bang Muang with multiple halls arranged around a square cloister in traditional Thai style. The ordination hall contains walls covered with religious painted scenes and the grounds hold several Buddha statues and structures.

The temple stands on the birthplace location of King Rama II and received multiple renovations during the reigns of Kings Rama III, IV, and V. These building phases shaped the structure visitors see today.

The murals in the ordination hall show scenes from Thai folk tales and royal processions that visitors can observe and interpret today. These painted stories hold meaning for people who come to worship and reflect here.

The temple can be reached by public bus from the local market or by driving on Highway 35 toward kilometer 63. Visitors should dress respectfully and move at an unhurried pace to observe the buildings and painted details.

Behind a statue of King Rama II stands a Khmer-style prang, surrounded by reclining Buddha figures and multiple seated Buddha images. This combination of architectural styles reflects influences from across the region.
