Wat Sa Morakot

Wat Sa Morakot is a temple complex featuring scattered laterite ruins across a wide clearing, with archaeological remnants standing alongside modern religious buildings. The site blends ancient stone structures with contemporary construction.

Dating to the Dvâravatî period and Khmer era, the temple preserves two of Thailand's oldest discovered Buddha footprints set into a laterite foundation. These impressions mark centuries of devotion at this sacred location.

The modern chapel houses a replica of the revered Phra Phutta Chinnarat Buddha, and people gather in this section to pray while the metallic wall decorations catch light during their visits.

Visitors must follow temple dress codes and remove shoes before entering buildings. The site can be easily combined with a trip to the nearby Wat Si Maha Pho temple.

The complex displays an unusual blend of ancient laterite structures and modern aluminum decorations, visibly showing how the place has evolved across different eras. Outdoor boundary markers called Bai Sema feature metallic details that highlight this layered history.
