Wat Samian Nari, Buddhist temple in Lat Yao district, Bangkok, Thailand
Wat Samian Nari is a Buddhist temple in the Lat Yao district with traditional Thai architecture featuring gilded ornaments and stucco details on its structures. The grounds extend across approximately 7 acres along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.
The temple was founded in 1857 under the name Wat Khae Rai before being renamed in 1979. This name change honored Samian Kham, a female clerk who provided significant financial support for restoration work in 1877.
The main hall houses a revered Buddha image and displays wall paintings showing Buddhist teachings in traditional Thai styles. These artistic works shape the spiritual experience for visitors moving through the space.
The temple is directly accessible via Wat Samian Nari Station on the SRT Dark Red Line, which opened in 2021. This modern transit option makes visits straightforward and provides direct access to the grounds.
The main hall interior is divided into two sections with a tunnel-like passage that guides visitors along a set path around the altar. This unusual spatial design subtly directs the movement of worshippers.
