Phlaeng Faifa Fort, Historic fort in Talat, Thailand.

Phlaeng Faifa Fort is a military installation on the bank of the Chao Phraya River with thick walls, watchtowers, and several cannons positioned along its ramparts. The structure includes various chambers for storage, troop movement, and command centers to control river defense operations.

The fort was built in 1814 during King Rama II's reign and served as a strategic defensive position to protect Bangkok from naval invasions. It represents an important phase in Siam's military history when river defense against foreign threats was crucial.

The fort displays features of traditional Thai military architecture with its design elements and observation points that reflect construction methods of the period. Visitors can still see how rooms were arranged practically, showing how soldiers lived and worked there.

The grounds are most accessible to visit on cooler days in the early morning or late afternoon. Comfortable shoes are important, as the areas are uneven and there are several levels with stairs throughout.

Its position at a bend in the Chao Phraya River gave defenders extended sight lines for tracking approaching vessels from multiple directions. This geographic placement was invaluable for military strategy of the era and shows how carefully the defensive installation was positioned.
