Kanchanaphisek Bridge

Kanchanaphisek Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Samut Prakan, Thailand

Kanchanaphisek Bridge is a cable-stayed structure spanning the Chao Phraya River with a main section stretching over a kilometer. Its tall main cables support a wide center span that allows large cargo boats to pass underneath without obstruction.

The bridge opened in 2007 and became the first major road link crossing the river in that location. It was built as part of broader infrastructure expansion to handle increasing traffic around eastern Bangkok.

The bridge was named to honor the king's 50th anniversary on the throne, making it a symbol of national significance in local consciousness. You can notice golden-toned elements and decorative touches that reflect this celebration when you cross it.

The bridge is part of a toll expressway system connecting various districts around Bangkok. When using it, expect traffic during peak hours, and be aware that toll fees apply to all vehicles crossing it.

The structure was engineered with a generous clearance height to allow large cargo ships and barges to navigate below. This design choice shows how the engineers balanced river navigation needs with the demands of modern road infrastructure.
