Ghafurov District

Ghafurov District is an administrative area in Sughd Province in northern Tajikistan, spreading across mountainous and valley terrain. The Kayrakkum Reservoir lies within its borders and serves as a critical water source for the surrounding communities and agricultural activities.

The district was established in 1957 within the ancient region of Sogdiana, a key hub along historic trade routes. It was named after Bobojon Ghafurov, an important figure in Tajik history.

The district contains eleven jamoats and one town, representing a population of 380,500 people with Tajik, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Russian, and Tatar communities.

The area is largely rural with settlements spread across valleys and lowlands. Visitors should prepare for limited services in remote areas and be aware that accessibility varies by season.

The district surrounds multiple cities including Khujand, maintaining a 95 percent rural population while connecting major urban centers in northern Tajikistan.
