Kasserine Governorate, Administrative division in central Tunisia
The Kasserine Governorate extends across 8,260 square kilometers of land in west-central Tunisia, bordering Algeria and containing mountainous terrain with agricultural areas.
Established in 1956, the governorate contains ancient Roman settlements including Sbeitla and Haidra, with a Triumphal Arch commemorating the Tetrarchy emperors from 300 CE.
The territory maintains thirteen municipalities where residents practice traditional agriculture, trade activities, and celebrate regional festivals with music and local food specialties.
The governorate divides into thirteen administrative districts, providing educational facilities and public services to a population of approximately 439,243 inhabitants.
Mount Jebel ech Chambi, the highest elevation point in Tunisia, rises within the governorate borders and forms part of a national park.
