Zarzis Synagogue, Orthodox synagogue in Zarzis, Tunisia.
The synagogue features elaborate interior decorations leading to an open-air courtyard with adjoining rooms designated for the talmud torah studies.
The synagogue was built in 1905 when the Jewish community in Zarzis numbered 1,000 people, but suffered an arson attack in 1982.
The religious building, known in Hebrew as Mishkan Yaakov, continues to serve the remaining Jewish population of 150 members in this coastal town.
The synagogue maintains regular prayer services under the guidance of Rabbi Eliyahu Sofer, who leads the congregation through traditional Jewish rituals.
The synagogue includes sections dedicated to preserving artifacts and documents that detail the history of Jewish life in southeastern Tunisia.
