Djerbahood, Street art museum in Erriadh, Tunisia
Djerbahood is an outdoor art project in Erriadh village on Djerba Island where artists painted large-scale murals directly onto the walls of traditional buildings throughout the settlement. The artworks cover numerous structures across the town streets, turning the everyday architecture into an exhibition space.
The project began in 2014 when a Paris-based gallery initiated the idea of transforming the historic village with contemporary murals. This effort brought artists from around the world to collaborate on a single large-scale public art installation.
The murals reflect local traditions and Mediterranean heritage through imagery that visitors encounter while walking the village streets.
Walking through the narrow streets is the best way to see the murals and experience the village layout. Local shops and residents along the way can point you toward artworks and offer refreshments.
Artists from around 30 countries painted directly on existing house facades, preserving the village's traditional structure while adding contemporary art to it. This global collaboration brought together vastly different artistic styles and approaches within a single compact location.
