Crocodile Farm, Crocodile conservation center in Midoun, Tunisia
The Crocodile Farm is a breeding facility for over 400 Nile crocodiles housed in multiple lagoons within a North African fortress-style structure. The enclosures are designed to replicate the natural conditions these reptiles need to thrive.
The facility was established as part of Djerba Explore Park and became one of the region's largest conservation programs for Nile crocodiles. The project grew from a desire to protect wild populations and maintain the species in a controlled setting.
The farm showcases traditional Tunisian architecture and features North African music throughout the grounds, connecting visitors to the region's heritage. As you walk through, you experience how the design and layout reflect local craftsmanship and everyday cultural practices.
The farm sits on the southeastern side of the island and welcomes visitors most days, with mornings being the best time to see the animals active. Broad pathways lead you through the property, making it easy to view the different enclosures and observe the crocodiles up close.
The nursery section allows visitors to follow the entire life cycle of Nile crocodiles, from tiny hatchlings to fully grown adults. This rare opportunity to observe natural development stages of these reptiles in one place makes the experience particularly memorable.
