Church of Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire of Tunis

The Church of Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire is a 19th century building distinguished by a central dome positioned at the southern entrance to the Medina near Bab el Jazira. Its structure blends Turkish residential design with Catholic religious modifications made during the French protectorate period.

The structure was originally built in 1895 as a residence for a Turkish general and converted into a Catholic church in 1896 during the French protectorate. This transformation reflects the political and religious shifts occurring in Tunisia during this period.

After Tunisia gained independence, this space was transformed into a cultural center where theatrical performances and artistic events continue to bring together visitors and locals interested in creative expression.

The building is situated on Rue de l'École in the Medina district and is easily accessible on foot. It is important to note that the structure currently suffers from roof damage and visitor access may be limited or restricted.

Crystal chandeliers were added to the interior in 1924, bringing a gleaming contrast to the older architectural elements of the space. This addition reveals how the building was refined over time to emphasize its role as a place of worship.
