Ağrı Province, Administrative province in Eastern Turkey.
Ağrı Province is an administrative area in Eastern Turkey that encompasses eight districts, including Doğubayazıt, Eleşkirt, Patnos, and Diyadin, with the city of Ağrı as its capital. The region's landscape is dominated by Mount Ararat, which rises prominently and shapes the geographic character of the territory.
The province was established in 1927 as new administrative boundaries were created following the founding of the Turkish Republic. Doğubayazıt district became part of this newly organized structure at that time.
Local markets across the districts display traditional textiles, handicrafts, and regional foods that reflect the area's Turkish and Kurdish heritage. You can experience how daily life and craftsmanship traditions continue in these markets today.
The region is connected through Ağrı Airport with regular flights to Istanbul and Ankara, while regional buses serve travel between the districts. Planning your movement between different areas ahead of time will help you navigate the territory effectively.
Mount Ararat towers at nearly 5,400 meters and is Turkey's highest peak, visible from many parts of the province. Its commanding presence makes it a natural landmark that can be spotted from almost anywhere in the territory.
