Hagia Irene, Byzantine church in Istanbul

Hagia Irene, also known as Saint Irene, is a Greek Eastern Orthodox church located in the outer courtyard of Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.

Originally built by Constantine the Great in the 4th century, it was the first church to be built in Constantinople.

The church is notable for its mosaics and frescoes, which are some of the finest examples of Byzantine art.

Today, Hagia Irene serves as a museum and concert hall, hosting a variety of cultural events throughout the year.

Unlike many other Byzantine structures, it has never been converted into a mosque.
