Şanlıurfa Province

Şanlıurfa Province covers a large area in southeastern Turkey with mostly flat terrain and gentle hills. The climate here is hot and dry during summer, while winters remain mild.

This region saw settlement since ancient times and became part of Roman and Byzantine empires. During medieval centuries, it passed under different Islamic dynasties.

Neighborhoods here gather around tea gardens where residents meet throughout the day to discuss local matters. Dishes served in family-run kitchens use bulgur and lentils in ways particular to this part of the country.

Summers can be extremely hot, so spring or autumn are more comfortable for visiting. Most locations lie in or near the capital city, making exploration easier.

Large irrigation canals have turned former steppe lands into green fields. This transformation changed how the province looks over recent decades.
