Şanlıurfa Province

The province spans 19,242 square kilometers, featuring semi-arid Mediterranean climate with extreme summer temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius in July.

The region holds the ancient city of Edessa, established by Seleucus I Nicator in 303 BC as a strategic garrison town in the eastern Hellenistic realm.

Traditional bazaars throughout the province display local craftsmanship, from copper goods to textiles, while regional cuisine centers on liver kebab preparations.

The province maintains strong agricultural production, generating 42 percent of Turkey's cotton yield through the Southeastern Anatolia Project irrigation system.

Göbekli Tepe archaeological site, located 12 kilometers northeast of the capital, contains temple structures dating to the 10th millennium BC.
