Mount Nemrut, Historical site in Turkey
Mount Nemrut, standing over 2,134 metres high, is located in southeastern Turkey.
The site was excavated in 1881 by Karl Sester, a German engineer assessing transport for the Ottomans.
Crowned with a number of large statues presumed to be royal tombs from the 1st century BC.
The best time to visit Mount Nemrut is at sunset or sunrise when the statues are dramatically illuminated.
It has been dubbed as the 8th Wonder of the World due to its fascinating tomb-sculpture mix.
