Mount Nemrut, Ancient mountain sanctuary in Adıyaman Province, Turkey
The 2,150-meter mountain summit displays giant stone statues and heads of ancient rulers and deities arranged around a massive burial mound.
King Antiochus I of Commagene constructed this monumental tomb sanctuary in 62 BCE, combining Persian and Greek architectural traditions at the mountain peak.
The stone sculptures represent a fusion of Eastern and Western religious figures, including Zeus-Oromasdes, Apollo-Mithras, and Heracles-Artagnes, reflecting regional beliefs.
Visitors can access the site from May through October, with a 600-meter uphill walk from the parking area to reach the archaeological remains.
The mountain features an astronomical relief depicting a lion with Jupiter, Mercury, and Mars, potentially marking the construction date of the monument.
