Kemaliye

The district of Kemaliye extends over 1,207 square kilometers within the Eastern Anatolia region at an elevation of 1,130 meters above sea level.

Originally called Eğin until 1922, the town received its current name in honor of Mustafa Kemal Pasha following the Turkish War of Independence.

The district contains 61 villages and features numerous Ottoman-era houses that demonstrate traditional architectural methods along the Karasu River gorge.

The district maintains a population of 5,170 residents as of 2022, with the main municipality serving as an administrative center for the surrounding communities.

The area holds status as a Tentative World Heritage Site, characterized by steep rocky surroundings and a network of historical structures along river valleys.
