Amasra

Amasra is a port town on the Black Sea coast that sits on a peninsula with two nearby islands. Narrow streets wind through old fortifications and down to sandy beaches, while the harbor remains an active fishing center.

The settlement came under control of Persians, Romans, and Byzantines before Genoese merchants built fortifications and the Ottomans took over in 1460. Each period left its mark on the town's buildings and layout.

The Archaeological Museum displays objects from different periods and civilizations that settled here over centuries. Visitors can see how various peoples left their mark on this place through everyday items and artworks.

The town is easy to explore on foot since most places of interest are in the compact old town. Restaurants by the harbor serve fresh fish and seafood caught daily by local fishermen.

Outside the town walls stands a Roman monument created during the 1st century that marks a rare reminder of Roman administration in the area. This landmark shows how important the town was to the Roman Empire.
