Can Hasan, Archaeological site in Karaman, Turkey.

Can Hasan 1 is an archaeological site in the Karaman region and consists of a mound measuring about 360 by 280 meters across and up to 5 meters high. The location sits on fertile land near the Taurus Mountains and shows traces of settlements spanning several thousand years.

The site was systematically excavated between 1961 and 1967, revealing seven distinct layers from the Late Neolithic through the Late Chalcolithic periods. The discoveries show how the region experienced continuous human settlement across thousands of years.

The pottery styles here display different firing techniques and decorative patterns that show how early potters worked. Visitors can see how crafting methods evolved over thousands of years through the layers of settlement.

The site is located about 12 kilometers northeast of central Karaman and is relatively easy to reach. Since this is an active archaeological dig location, it is helpful to check locally before visiting, as access may vary depending on ongoing research activities.

Among the finds was a well-preserved cow skull, showing that people there domesticated animals at an early stage. This is one of the clues about how inhabitants lived and managed their economy during the Chalcolithic period.
