Lake Meke

Lake Meke is a crater lake near Karapınar featuring two interconnected water bodies within a volcanic crater. The basin is defined by several small islands and a distinctive volcanic cone rising from its center.

The main crater formed about four million years ago through volcanic activity, with a secondary eruption creating an inner crater roughly nine thousand years later. These two events shaped the geological structure visible today.

The lake takes its name from the surrounding Meke plateau and serves as a landmark in the local landscape. Visitors can observe how the water shifts color with the seasons, reflecting its mineral-rich composition.

The site is roughly nine kilometers from town and accessible from the E981 road corridor. Wear sturdy footwear since the terrain around the water can be uneven.

The inner water body reaches depths around 25 meters and holds high salt concentration from volcanic mineral deposits. This saline basin contrasts noticeably with the outer, less salty water surface.
