Çukurova Regional Airport, Çukurova Regional Airport
Çukurova Regional Airport is a new airport in Tarsus with a capacity of approximately 9 million passengers per year. The facility features two 3,500-meter concrete runways, a large passenger terminal, a separate cargo terminal with an annual processing capacity of 25,000 tons, and parking spaces for up to 60 aircraft.
The project began with a construction tender in 2011 and was awarded to a new partner in 2016 after the original contractor faced difficulties. The opening was delayed multiple times before finally taking place on August 10, 2024, making it Turkey's 58th airport.
The name references the Çukurova region, historically known for cotton and citrus production. The architecture incorporates these agricultural traditions through cotton and citrus motifs in its design, reflecting the identity of the local community.
The airport is easily accessible via highway Otoyol 21 and main road D 400, located between Adana and Mersin. A rail connection is planned for 2026 to link the airport to the railway network.
The control tower has a unique tree-like shape and is located close to the runways. This design gives air traffic controllers and pilots optimal conditions for coordinating safe takeoffs and landings.
