Aydın Archaeological Museum, Archaeological museum in Efeler, Turkey
The Aydın Archaeological Museum is a collection center for ancient and ethnographic artifacts in Efeler that displays finds from local excavations. The building houses objects from different periods, including coins, ceramics, sculptures, and everyday items from houses and temples.
The museum began in 1959 as a small office and received official museum status in 1969. It moved to its current location in 1973 and was fundamentally renewed in 2012.
The collections come from ancient cities in the region and show how different cultures lived here across centuries. Visitors can see how daily life changed from ancient times through to later periods.
Visiting is possible during daytime, but it is wise to set aside enough time since the collection is extensive and there are many rooms to see. Good footwear and some patience when walking through the different floors are helpful.
The museum houses the Seikilos Inscription, one of the oldest known musical compositions with written notation from about 2000 years ago. This ancient object shows that people at that time already wrote down and preserved music.
