Nevşehir Museum, museum in Nevşehir District
Nevşehir Museum is an archaeological museum in Nevşehir displaying artifacts from the surrounding region organized by historical period across two floors. The collection spans from the Neolithic through the Byzantine era and includes pottery, coins, glass, metalwork, and jewelry.
The museum was established in the 1960s and opened in 1967 as part of the Damat Ibrahim Pasha Complex, housing objects from millennia of settlement in the region. In 1987, it relocated to its current site within a cultural center.
The displays show everyday objects from different periods, such as pottery and tools that reveal how people here adapted to changing times. Visitors can observe how craftsmanship and materials evolved across thousands of years of settlement.
The museum is centrally located in Nevşehir and easy to reach on foot, making it convenient to visit alongside nearby historical sites. Confirm opening status before your visit, as restoration work may affect access.
The coin collection spans from Greek to Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman pieces, including Spanish ducats discovered by chance in a nearby town. The museum also holds donated artifacts from Mesopotamia and Cyprus that broaden its historical scope beyond the local region.
