Wuqiu Township is an administrative area in Kinmen County composed of two islands. The settlement spans a small territory and sits far northeast from Kinmen's main landmass.
The area served as part of a maritime route between regions in the 1400s. It later became a fishing settlement and received a lighthouse structure in the 1800s.
Residents speak a distinctive dialect tied to their historical roots and regional identity. This language remains woven into daily conversations and gives the place its own cultural character.
Ferry boats connect the islands regularly with the larger territory, though service runs infrequently due to the remote location. Drinking water is produced through desalination systems that serve the small population.
A historic lighthouse structure was returned to operation after decades of inactivity. This revival made it once again a working navigation aid for vessels passing through the region.
