Wangan Township

Wangan Township is an administrative division spanning 19 islands across the Penghu archipelago, with six inhabited islands containing nine distinct villages. These scattered settlements are connected by sea routes and form the structure of this island community.

The township was restructured after World War II when Taiwan transitioned from Japanese rule to governance by the Republic of China. This administrative reorganization shaped the island system's structure for decades to come.

Each of the nine villages maintains local traditions through festivals and events that reflect the maritime heritage of Penghu County inhabitants.

The township is reached by regular ferry services from Tanmen Harbor or flights from Wang-an Airport to Kaohsiung. Sea conditions can affect travel timing, so checking weather before planning your visit is advisable.

The Jhongshe Historic House displays traditional Taiwanese architecture with its sanheyuan design and received its name during President Chiang Ching-kuo's visit in 1971. The building preserves details from this historical encounter.
