Rende Sugar Factory, Industrial heritage site in Tainan, Taiwan.
Rende Sugar Factory is a former sugar processing complex spread across roughly 7.5 hectares in Tainan. The site contains warehouses, production buildings, and a prominent smokestack dating from the Japanese colonial period.
The facility was established in 1909 as Cheluqian Sugar Refinery by the Taiwan Sugar Company and commenced operations in 1910. It became one of the major sugar processing centers in the region during Japanese colonial rule.
The factory grounds now host the Ten-Drum Cultural Park, a center for percussion arts and creative performances. Former warehouses and production spaces serve as venues and exhibition areas where visitors encounter contemporary and traditional percussion art.
The grounds are easy to navigate on foot, with different pavilions and exhibition areas well connected across the site. Wear comfortable shoes as the area is spacious and you may want to visit multiple buildings.
The site houses Asia's first international drum arts center with specialized performance spaces designed for percussion events. A distinctive elevated walkway connects different zones near the original smokestack, offering visitors an overview of the entire area.
