Yi Yuan Mansion

Yi Yuan Mansion is a large residential complex in Xiushui Township built with three main halls, six wing sections, and more than 90 rooms spread across the grounds. The layout was designed following traditional principles, with separate areas for different family branches and household functions.

The Chen family commissioned this residence in 1846, creating what became the largest traditional mansion in Changhua County. The complex grew over decades and remained a significant family seat in the region.

The building displays Qing-era design choices through its multiple courtyards and formal halls, which visitors can walk through today. These spaces shaped how the family conducted daily life and received important guests.

The site is located in the central region of Changhua County and can be found using its coordinates. Visitors should plan time to explore the interior since the compound is large with many rooms to walk through.

The compound includes a dedicated hall for sedan chairs, the transport method used by wealthy families in the 1800s. This room reveals what kinds of travel and status mattered to the residents of that time.
