Shihtiping

Shihtiping is a coastal area with stepped rock platforms along the Pacific Ocean, shaped by wave action on sedimentary and volcanic rock layers over millions of years. The platforms display different heights and textures, reflecting the result of this extended geological process.

The area formed through interaction between the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate, becoming a research focus for geologists during the 20th century. This tectonic activity allowed scientists to better understand the complex processes at plate boundaries.

The local Amis community uses this coastal area for traditional crafts and practices that respect the natural setting. Visitors notice handmade artworks and objects created by residents using materials from the shore.

The best time to visit is in the morning before 10 AM, when light conditions are optimal and fewer visitors are present. A toll road connects from Highway 11 to the site, making access relatively straightforward.

A nearby fishing harbor displays traditional boats made from improvised materials, adapted by local fishers to the rough coastal environment. These handmade vessels are distinctive and document a special maritime practice unique to this region.
