Jiang A-Sin Ancient House, Taiwanese merchant mansion in Beipu, Taiwan.
Jiang A-Sin Ancient House is a mid-20th century merchant villa in Beipu Village, Taiwan. The building combines local woodcraft with Western-inspired window ornaments and facade elements.
The villa was built in 1949 for a successful tea merchant and shows the prosperity of local merchant families in the postwar period. In July 2006, it received recognition as a county-level monument.
The house takes its name from the tea merchant who commissioned it after building his fortune in the local trade. Room placement follows traditional Chinese principles of spatial harmony, while facade details and ornaments reflect European influences.
Visits are possible from Friday to Sunday without prior booking, while groups of five or more need to arrange their visit in advance from Tuesday to Thursday. The estate is located in the village center and can be reached easily on foot.
Taiwanese architect Peng Yuli designed the villa and blended Japanese design ideas of his time with Baroque details. This mixture of three architectural traditions makes the building a rare example of cultural layering in the region.
