Ovruch, Administrative center in northern Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine

Ovruch is a city in Zhytomyr Oblast in Ukraine, situated in a forested region south of the Belarusian border. The city spreads across flat terrain and serves as the administrative center with a population of around 15,250 people.

The city was first mentioned in 977 as Vruchiy and later became the center of the Drevlians, a Slavic people. After their previous capital was destroyed, they relocated to this settlement.

Church of Saint Basil from the 12th century shows how people of that era built religious structures. The building still shapes the townscape today and reflects the region's early Christian history.

The location is easy to reach as it maintains good connections to nearby towns and settlements. Visitors will find typical services and facilities of a regional town here.

During World War II, the Jewish community resisted German occupation through organized activities led by Mordechai Schlein. This resistance movement represents a lesser-known chapter of the town's wartime experience.
