Ovruch

Located 50 kilometers south of the Belarusian border at an elevation of 149 meters, Ovruch extends through the forests of the Polesia region.

First documented as Vruchiy in 977, the settlement functioned as the capital of the Drevlian tribe following the destruction of their previous center Iskorosten.

The twelfth-century Saint Basil's Church, commissioned by Rurik II of Kyiv, demonstrates the architectural methods of medieval Eastern European religious construction.

The city maintains transportation connections to neighboring municipalities within Korosten Raion and serves approximately 15,250 residents as of 2022.

During World War II, the Jewish community organized resistance efforts against German occupation forces through a movement led by Mordechai Schlein.
