Kyiv TV Tower, Television tower in Kyiv, Ukraine

Kyiv TV Tower is a 385-meter-tall steel lattice structure that dominates the city's skyline and serves as the main broadcasting hub for television and radio across the region. Its central core measures 4 meters in diameter and houses two maintenance elevators that support the facility's daily operations.

The tower was completed in 1973 after being originally planned for Moscow before authorities chose to build it in Kyiv instead. This decision reflected the city's growing importance in the Soviet broadcasting network.

The site sits where the Lukianivka Jewish cemetery once stood until 1966, a fact that continues to shape how people view and discuss this location. This layered past remains part of the place's identity for many residents.

The tower is visible from many parts of the city and serves as a clear landmark for navigation around Kyiv. Since the structure houses active broadcasting equipment, visitor access may be restricted or limited to specific areas.

This was the first completely welded tower of its kind in the world, built without rivets except where it connects to the ground. This groundbreaking construction method created a stronger and more durable structure that continues to function decades later.
