Luhan River, Right tributary of the Seversky Donets in Donbas, Ukraine.
The Luhan River is a right tributary of the Seversky Donets that flows across eastern Ukraine through the Luhansk Oblast region. The waterway passes through several populated areas and feeds into a larger river network that drains toward the Don River system.
The river formed as a natural waterway over centuries and became a key geographic feature of eastern Luhansk. The city of Luhansk itself began to develop in the late 1700s near one of its tributary confluences and grew into a regional center of trade.
The river system shaped the development of Luhansk Oblast, supporting industrial operations, coal mining activities, and agricultural practices in surrounding settlements.
The waterway is accessible at multiple points in built-up areas where visitors can approach the banks. Spring through autumn offers the best conditions for exploring, when water flow is visible and access paths are most convenient.
The source originates in Horlivka at coordinates 48°18′59″N 38°07′22″E, while the mouth meets the Donets River at 48°37′40″N 39°28′11″E.
