Zakharivka

Zakharivka is a rural settlement located in the forest steppe zone of Odesa Oblast, situated in a river valley. The place spans a large area and serves as an administrative center for numerous smaller villages across the surrounding region.

People lived at this location thousands of years ago, as shown by archaeological finds from the Stone Age. Later, other groups settled here, leaving behind burial sites and traces visible in the landscape.

The settlement is predominantly Ukrainian-speaking, which you notice in street signs and daily conversations around town. Alongside Ukrainian, you will hear Russian and Romanian spoken by residents, shaping the cultural character of the area.

The settlement lies in an open river valley with generally flat terrain, making it easy to move around. Visitors should prepare for changing weather and bring appropriate clothing for different seasons.

The settlement had a different legal status for many years and was only recently officially recognized as a rural settlement. This change reflects how many communities in the region are being reclassified today.
