Museum of Ukrainian home icons

The Museum of Ukrainian Home Icons displays a large collection of religious objects from different periods across 12 exhibition halls within the stone walls of Radomysl Castle. The rooms contain various types of icons, crosses, and devotional items.

The collection began in 1996 when a physician started gathering icons from different regions to prevent their destruction. This rescue mission laid the foundation for the museum now housed in the historic castle.

The icons on display show a distinct style that differs from Byzantine tradition and reflects regional characteristics from across the country. Visitors can observe how local artists brought their own techniques and visual language to religious art.

The site is open throughout the year, and visitors can join guided tours to better understand the collections. It is worth allowing time for exploration, as the exhibition rooms are spread across the castle and rotating displays may change what you see.

The collection contains a stone-carved image of Saint Nicholas from the 12th century, considered the oldest piece in the collection. This artwork shows how early the tradition of home icon making existed in the region.
