Bratslav

Bratslav is a settlement in Nemyriv Raion within Vinnytsia Oblast, situated along the Southern Bug River. The place sits at about 201 meters in elevation and has been reorganized administratively over time.

The settlement was founded in 1362 and gained Magdeburg Rights in 1564 under Polish-Lithuanian rule. Throughout the 18th century it experienced several changes in control between different powers.

Rabbi Nachman lived here from 1802 to 1810 and founded an important Jewish spiritual movement. His stay shaped the place's role in Jewish history and drew followers from across the region.

The place offers basic administrative services and transport links to the Vinnytsia region, though its official status has changed over time. Visitors should keep in mind it is a small settlement and that larger services are found in nearby towns.

After the Second Partition of Poland in 1793 the place experienced rapid border shifts between different powers. This turbulent period left marks on the community's makeup and identity.
