Bukovel, Ski resort in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine
Bukovel is a ski resort in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine, spread across several forested slopes. The facility includes dozens of marked runs of varying difficulty and a dense network of lifts that carry skiers uphill.
The first lifts began operating in late 2001 after private investors developed the site starting in 2000. Since then the area has expanded continuously and grew into the largest winter sports destination in the country.
The resort takes its name from the Romanian term for beech forest, which once covered the surrounding slopes. Visitors from across the region now gather here to watch competitions or try the runs themselves.
The area caters to beginners, intermediates, and experienced skiers, with each group finding suitable runs. Those who have never skied before will find gentle slopes with little incline, while advanced riders can use steeper and more demanding routes.
An artificial lake was created here that now ranks as the largest water body of this kind in the country. Many guests use the water for recreation and leisure activities in summer when the snow has long melted.
