Sports Ground, former stadium in Kyiv, Ukraine
Sports Ground is a multi-purpose sports venue in Kyiv located in the Lukyanivka neighborhood. The facility features dedicated areas for football, track cycling with an oval-shaped track, and various other outdoor sports activities used by local teams and community members.
The ground opened in 1912 as the first permanent sports stadium in the Russian Empire, establishing organized sports in the region. In 1913, it hosted the First All-Russian Olympiad, a major athletic competition featuring athletes from across the empire and neighboring territories.
The ground is accessible by local buses or on foot from nearby residential areas, with parking available for visitors with vehicles. The flat and open layout allows different sports to take place in the same area, and lighting enables activities to continue during evening hours.
The venue hosted diverse competitions including running, marathons, football, wrestling, weightlifting, fencing, cycling and motorcycle racing, making it a hub for multiple sports disciplines. The 1913 Olympiad was so large that races extended along a route between Kyiv and Chernihiv.
