Zelenodolsk, town in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine
Zelenodolsk is a small town in southern Ukraine located in Apostolove Raion and Kryvyi Rih Raion, with a straightforward layout and practical buildings. The streets are lined with simple structures built during the Soviet era, small green spaces, local shops, and modest homes that form the everyday landscape of the community.
The town was founded in the early 1960s and received official city status in 1993, growing as a center for workers and their families near industrial plants. Its development was closely tied to local metallurgy and manufacturing sectors that shaped its infrastructure and layout.
Zelenodolsk is predominantly Ukrainian, with Russian widely spoken and smaller communities of Belarusians, Tatars, and other groups living here. Daily life centers on local markets where neighbors meet, shops where people know each other, and community gatherings that bring residents together throughout the year.
The town is accessible by local roads and sits close to larger urban centers, making travel straightforward for visitors. Public buses and shared taxis connect it to nearby cities, while the compact layout makes walking the main streets easy and convenient.
During the 2022 Russian invasion, local residents led by mayor Dmytro Neveselyi organized about 300 volunteer fighters with light weapons to defend the town. These local defenders manned checkpoints and protected a key power station, holding the line until regular Ukrainian soldiers arrived.
