Rozhniativ, Settlement in Kalush Raion, Ukraine
Rozhniativ is an urban-type settlement in Kalush Raion, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, in western Ukraine. It sits in the Carpathian foothills at around 367 meters above sea level, surrounded by forested hills and small rivers.
Rozhniativ was the administrative center of its own raion until 2020, when a national territorial reform folded it into Kalush Raion. The area has been settled for centuries as part of the broader Galician region in western Ukraine.
Rozhniativ sits in western Ukraine, in a region shaped by Hutsul and Galician folk traditions. Wooden churches and traditional houses typical of the Carpathian foothills are visible in and around the settlement.
Rozhniativ can be reached from Kolomyia and Ivano-Frankivsk by regional road and also works as a starting point for trips into the Carpathian foothills. Spring through autumn is the most practical time to visit, when roads and trails in the area are in good condition.
Since January 2024, Rozhniativ has been officially reclassified as a rural settlement under new Ukrainian legislation, losing its former urban-type status. This shift affects many places across the country at once and changes their legal standing without changing anything visible on the ground.
