St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Kyiv

St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church is a Gothic Revival brick building in the Pechersk district of Kyiv. Two slender towers with pointed spires frame the brick façade, while large stained glass windows flood the interior with colored light.

Construction began in 1899 following plans by architect Władysław Horodecki to serve the growing Polish Catholic community in Kyiv. Completion came in the early years of the 20th century, bringing a prominent Gothic Revival structure to the cityscape.

The church remains an active venue for daily Masses held in several languages, reflecting the diverse Catholic community of the city. Visitors experience both organ concerts and traditional liturgical ceremonies that fill the space with different sounds and rituals.

The church is easily reached on foot along Velyka Vasylkivska Street and sits in a quiet part of Pechersk. Visitors can experience both religious services and organ concerts, which often take place in the evening inside.

Small lizard sculptures and decorative griffons hide along the façade, a hallmark of Horodecki's quirky design style. These figures only emerge on close inspection and add a playful note amid the solemn architecture.
