Zolochiv Castle, Renaissance castle in Zolochiv, Ukraine

Zolochiv Castle is a Renaissance fortress with four pentagonal towers at the corners of a rectangular layout. The complex includes two main buildings with distinct characteristics that together form the complete structure.

The castle was built between 1634 and 1636 by Jakub Sobieski and served as a defensive structure in an important region. It experienced multiple attacks and sieges that underscored its strategic importance over several centuries.

The castle displays coats of arms and collections of furnishings and paintings that reflect the tastes of the wealthy families who lived there. These objects offer a window into the daily life and preferences of its former residents.

The site is accessible by regular bus service from Lviv with a journey of about an hour and a half. Plan to spend adequate time exploring both main buildings and the towers upon arrival.

A distinctive feature is the mauve-colored rotunda that stands as an isolated structure with low-rising wings beside the main complex. This unusual building displays a different architectural approach and immediately catches the eye.
