Astronomical Observatory of Kyiv University, Research observatory at Kyiv University, Ukraine
The Astronomical Observatory of Kyiv University is a research facility with a distinctive octagonal tower and four wrought iron columns. The building contains specialized foundations for stationary telescopes as well as rooms with access to outdoor terraces for portable observing instruments.
The facility was built between 1840 and 1845 under architect Vikenty Beretta's direction and remains the oldest astronomical observatory in Ukraine. The building's distinctive design with its octagonal tower reflects scientific advancement of the 19th century.
The observatory carries the name of Kyiv University and has served as a center for astronomical research in Ukraine since its founding. Scientists here work on observations and measurements that contribute to understanding the night sky.
