Pharmacy Museum in Kyiv, Pharmacy museum in Podil district, Kyiv, Ukraine
The Pharmacy Museum in Kyiv is a single-story building next to Florovsky Monastery, displaying more than 3,000 pharmaceutical objects across twelve exhibition halls. The collection documents how medicine-making and pharmacy work developed over centuries in this location.
German pharmacist Johann Heiter founded the first private pharmacy on this site in 1728, receiving his operating license through an imperial decree. The building became central to pharmacy work in Kyiv and shaped medical care in the city for generations.
The collection reflects how pharmacists in Kyiv conducted their trade and which remedies they prepared, while also preserving pharmaceutical guides from Russia, Germany, and Poland. Visitors can see the daily professional life of these practitioners through their own records and personal documents.
The museum has set opening hours with a midday break, and visitors can take guided tours or explore independently. The basement level is accessible and shows a reconstructed alchemist workspace worth seeing.
The basement contains an original vault from the founding period that reveals how valuable medicines were considered back then. This space conveys the economic importance that medicine held in the city's past.
