The monument was created by sculptor Ivan Kavaleridze and architect Vasyl Hnezdylov, inaugurated on March 1, 1977. It honors the philosopher who became known in the 18th century as a wanderer and spiritual thinker.
The monument faces the historical Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, where Skovoroda studied and taught as a prominent educator. Visitors come here to reflect on his influence as a thinker and spiritual guide.

Each autumn, university students wash the monument to polish it and celebrate academic achievements. During graduation ceremonies, graduates place caps on the statue, turning it into a visible celebration of completing studies.
