National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy

The National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is a higher education institution in the Podil district of Kyiv, Ukraine, set on a compact campus near the Dnipro riverbank. Its buildings are arranged around several courtyards, linking historic facades with modern lecture halls and library spaces.

A brotherhood school established the original institution in 1615, which later grew into a collegiate academy before authorities closed it in 1819. Following Ukrainian independence, the academy reopened in 1991 and resumed its teaching activities.

The campus occupies a historic quarter where baroque architecture meets contemporary study spaces used by students throughout the day. Visitors often notice the Latin inscriptions above doorways, reminding them of the institution's early role as a spiritual center.

Visitors can enter the public areas of the campus during weekdays when the gates are open throughout the day. The main entrance is located on Kontraktova Street and can be reached on foot from the nearest metro station.

The academy became the first Ukrainian institution to introduce a North American teaching model, where students select courses and accumulate credits. This approach differs sharply from the Soviet system that persists at most other universities across the country.
