Kyiv-Mohyla Academy old academic building

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy's old academic building is a brick structure in Podil with classical features including symmetrical windows and stone foundations. The edifice displays Ukrainian Baroque forms throughout its design.

The building was constructed in the 18th century under architect Gottfried Schädel's direction as the first structure in Ukraine designed specifically for educational use. It marks a turning point in the history of Ukrainian higher learning.

The building served as a gathering place for thinkers who shaped Ukrainian intellectual life during the 18th and 19th centuries. Scholars educated here went on to influence philosophy, literature, and scientific thought across the region.

The building offers guided tours Monday through Friday, accessed from Kontraktova Square in Podil. Advance arrangements are typically needed, and visiting hours are limited to certain times of the day.

The building has maintained its original educational purpose since the 1700s, serving continuously as a learning center through various political and social upheavals. This continuity makes it a rare example of institutional permanence in the region.
